The third brewery we visited in Sioux Falls is right across the street from JL Beers. In fact, Fernson Brewery was the second stop of my day, right after I finished lunch at JL Beers. And you may have seen this brewery’s beer all over Siouxland, since they market their product in multiple states and cities.

I’ve seen Fernson Brewery at multiple beer fests I’ve been to, and know they have a separate off-site brewery from their downtown location. This is due to the high volume of beer they produce and distribute all across the tri-state area. Meaning, they are probably one of the most recognizable breweries in Sioux Falls and beyond.

Merging and moving

Opening their downtown location Mid-2019, Fernson got it’s start back in 2015 with the production of their first batch. Co-owners Derek Fernholz and Blake Thompson, got their business name from merging their names together, and with the help on an amazing marketing crew created one of the most recognizable brand names in the Siouxland region.

When I walked in I was immediately greeted by the two bartenders, and I mentioned that I had just come across the street from JL Beers, but joked that I didn’t have the liver capacity to do an entire flight. So, instead I chose one stout and one sour off their draft list.

Burgers and Beers

Interestingly, they have a separate lounging room from the brewery where customers can sit down and enjoy a meal from their menu. Partnering with a local cattle farm, Fernson serves their customers Wagyu burgers! However, because I had just ate an entire meal at JL Beers across the street, I was not that hungry. I did, however, decide to try their pub fries, and I must say, they were perfectly seasoned and crispy. I took some home to my husband, who was very impressed, and told me that the next time we head up to Sioux Falls he wants to try a Wagyu burger himself.

Trying their sour, I knew it was probably one of the best I have tried in a while, so much so, that I bought a six pack to take home with me. I love that they have canned beers to sell for those who want to take product home, and enjoy over a quiet dinner. They also have a lot of merchandise for customers who love their favorite brewery so much they want to represent them out and about.

Plan your visit

In fact, the next week my husband and I were at our local grocery store and found some of their beer amongst the wide array of beer selection. I couldn’t get enough of their sour, so I bought another six-pack to enjoy while I blog about what else? Beer!

If you are like me and you’re an hour from their brewery, you too can visit the local grocery store, or even visit them online via their website (https://www.fernson.com/) where you can order directly from them. Also, make sure to head over to their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/fernsondowntown) where they are constantly updating their readers on daily specials.
