Second on our list is JL Beers. Not necessarily a brewery, but more like a bar featuring various local brews on tap. Going to an establishment like this allows you a chance to sample other brewery’s beers all in one place. In fact, on my trip up to Sioux Falls on this specific day I was actually attending a virtual Master Class for my blog.

Walking into JL Beers, I had my headphones in and was listening to the instructor and sat myself strategically at the far end of the bar top. Warmly greeted by one of the bartenders, I made a joke that I need a drink in order to stay focused.

Drinking on the job

I immediately loved the atmosphere of this downtown bar, very warm and homey. Open in the afternoon hours, this restaurant is one of a select few in downtown Sioux Falls that offer patrons a lunch option, since most eateries are only open for dinner.

After looking over the beer list I chose five beers for my flight. From left to right we have Udderly Cherry (Odell Brewery, CO), Black Butte (Deschutes Brewery, OR), Blueberry Kettle Sour (Obscure Brewery, Sioux Falls, SD), Dark Side (Empyrean, Lincoln, NE) and Peach Zombie Killer (B. Nektar Meadery, MI).

Out of all the flights I’ve ever tried in my beer tasting career, this has to be one of my all-time favorites. It is hard to choose a favorite, but I’d have to go with Udderly Cherry and Blueberry Kettle Sour. Although, I was quite impressed with the Peach Zombie Killer since it is part cider and part mead, which is basically fermented honey wine. And to help soak up all this beer, I ordered myself a Chicken Bacon Ranch sandwich with a pretzel on the side and jalapeno cheddar dipping sauce.

Plan your visit

Overall, I’m very glad I made JL Beers my first stop of the day, and I’m also happy to make it one of my stops on our Oktoberfest tour in Sioux Falls. So, if you are looking for a place to meet for lunch or dinner, I highly recommend JL Beers.

Make sure to check out their website (https://jlbeers.com/) for a full list of their tap selection, and also their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/jlbeerssf323) for updated weekly specials and daily announcements.
