On our last blog post we talked about Johnnie Mars, a family owned Greek restaurant. Today, we are going to look at another Greek-owned eatery here in Sioux City.

Over 100 years old!

Established in 1918, Milwaukee Wiener House is by far the oldest restaurant in town. Originally opening on 4th Street, they eventually moved, in 2014, to their current location on Douglas Street. This move was impressively strategic, since it is one of the first restaurants you see when approaching the Hard Rock Casino.

After a century of serving Siouxland, very few restaurants across the Unites States can say they’ve achieved this milestone. Over a hundred years of being the most recognized restaurant name in Sioux City, and possibly even Siouxland, Milwaukee Wiener has stayed consistently the same since the beginning.

locally owned

Barely changing their menu, they are known for having the best hot dog assortment and creations in Sioux City. And when we made our visit here last year, we walked into one of the busiest dining rooms I’ve seen in a long time. But even with all this activity, owner, Mike Eliades, let me back behind the grill! This is what you will find when you eat at local cafés and diners, unmatched quality and friendliness, because the business owner themselves are invested in the success of their establishment.

locally loved

Walking around, looking at all the memorabilia, it became obvious to me the community support rallying behind Milwaukee Wiener. People of all ages come here to relive fond memories, and make new ones with their friends and families.

show your support

I especially love the outdoor seating. What better place to sit, people watch, and listen to the city traffic wizz by on 3rd Street. I, myself, plan to buy a Milwaukee Wiener t-shirt to show my support during this frustrating time we’re experiencing.
