About fifty minutes outside Sioux City, in the Dutch town of Orange City, Iowa, sits a quaint little farm. A flower farm to be exact, and its guardian, Lindsay. Throughout the past couple years, I’ve seen her bouquets at the Sioux City Farmers Market and in local coffee shops.

Staying current

Thinking up new bouquet designs and ideas daily is an ever-present mindset Lindsay has, and then translating them onto social media is, in itself, practically a full-time job. Staying current on Facebook and Instagram is crucial to today’s small business, as is being noticed.

Minnesota roots

Pictures of her flower beds pop up weekly, and I must say, when I made my visit to Lindsay’s Flower Patch last month, there is an endless supply of photo opportunities on her farm. One of these many pictures I took was of her great-grandparents Charles and Helen Siewert and their award-winning fresh-cut flower garden in Southern Minnesota.

Reminiscing on fond memories while visiting their farm and garden, Lindsay decided to pursue her love for horticulture and start her own business. Bringing color and fragrances to weddings and dining room tables all across Siouxland. In fact, her bouquets are so unique, some flowers she grows cannot be found anywhere else in Siouxland. But more than just decorating for events, she has monthly subscriptions, allowing subscribers a personal delivery of fresh-cut bouquets to your home from Lindsay and her staff.

One-of-a-kind centerpieces

And with your subscription comes an unbelievable variety of flowers that you won’t see in a typical flower shop. Aromatic flowers such as Daphnes and Sweet Peas which are hard to ship due to their delicate nature, but bring a perfect amount of fragrance to your home. Plus, Lindsay is continuously adding to her cache every year, experimenting with new species and creating unique aesthetically beautiful arrangements.

Imagine one of her arrangements sitting on your dining room table. Or better yet, hanging as a wreath from your front door. What a show stopper that would be when guests came over! And even throughout the Winter! Yes, you heard me right. Lindsay even designs bouquets year-round, thus keeping you guessing. Trust me, I was surprised when I found out the plethora of cold weather flowers which flourish in the winter. Flowers you may find in your winter arrangements are larkspur, bachelor’s button, snapdragons, and the all-popular baby’s breath.

Something for everyone

Plants and flowers add so much texture to our lives. We use them to celebrate weddings, to honor our fallen soldiers, and to make memories. To help highlight every corner of our lives, flowers bring warmth and are often used as a creative expression. Bringing this creativity home can be as easy as signing up for one of Lindsay’s workshops, or even making a visit to her farm and participating in a U-pick event throughout the Spring and Summer.

Orange City’s famous tulips

Being so close to Orange City, this U-pick annual opportunity is especially popular during the weeks surrounding the Orange City Tulip Festival. In fact, Lindsay confidently claims to grow the most tulips in all of Siouxland. Personally, I’ve been to the Tulip Festival multiple years, and I’ve seen many different varieties of tulips, but after hearing there are even more I have not explored yet, makes me want to purposefully drive out during tulip season to feast my eyes on this beloved Dutch symbol.

Plan your visit

Overall, I quite enjoyed my visit, and learning more about her business, so much so, I will definitely be contacting her after we finish our house remodel this coming year. But in the mean time, I plan on passing on her information to as many people as possible. Including you, the reader.

If you’d like more information on Lindsay’s Flower patch, visit her Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/lindsaysflowerpatch) to view all her arrangements, and her website (https://www.lindsaysflowerpatch.com/) for seasonal events.

Finally, Lindsay also sells greeting cards, and t-shirts, giving you many options to support this local Siouxland business. And if you’d like to visit her farm give her a phone call, set up a time, and enjoy an eventful afternoon amongst fields of blooms and buds.
