Hands down, probably one of the most colorful bars you will ever visit in Sioux City is Buffalo Alice. Owned by Heather Poncelet who has worked at this iconic downtown bar for over two decades, she and her crew have been diligent to create an inviting atmosphere for locals and visitors alike.

Over the years, I’ve been to Buffalo Alice a handful of times, but this time I brought my camera so I could show you just how unique this restaurant and bar really is. Records on the wall, Rock N’ Roll memorabilia everywhere you look, and colorful Christmas lights strung up year-round, it’s like a crayon box exploded.

In addition to having a couple dozen beers on tap, they also have one of the best backyard patios in all of downtown. In fact, the outside seating area also has its own fully stocked bar, making it the perfect place to relax on those peaceful summer nights.

Buffalo on the move

But it hasn’t always been at this location. Opening its doors 1976, the first Buffalo Alice was at 423 Pearl Street, then moved to its current downtown spot in 1996, and eventually expanding in 2000 after the business next door closed. Making that expansion has been crucial to BA’s success (the locals call Buffalo Alice BA’s, so if you wanna sound like the locals….).

Enlarging the square space has allowed BA’s to establish itself as a top dining location here in Sioux City. And taking ques from numerous restaurants, they have created a pizza that rivals some of the best in our area. Open for lunch and dinner, you’ll see patrons of all ages here, from young teenagers to elderly grandparents, something that I had to get used to, since I’m not accustomed to seeing young children in a downtown bar on a Friday night. This alone shows how family-oriented BA’s is and that it is dedicated to catering to its loyal customers.

Say hello to Buffalo

As stated before, known for their pizza, they also serve wings, nachos and salads. I, personally, have had the Buffalo Chicken pizza a couple times, so to not ruin a classic, I decided to go with just that. Arriving at BA’s for my husband’s 30th high school class reunion, I came hungry and thirsty. Ordering a couple sours, I waited patiently for my pizza, and noticed that someone else had ordered the Jolson Combo (basically a supreme pizza, if you will).

Loving the attentiveness of the staff, and the energy from the crowd, I genuinely had an amazing time, and was reminded how awesome this establishment is. Owned by a local Sioux City resident, this is the prefect place to stop if you’re from out of town. All the locals go here, and you will fit right in! And finally, before you go, make sure to check out their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/buffaloalicebar/) for weekly specials, and their website (https://www.buffaloalice.com/) for a look at their menu.
