initial visit and first impressions

Just blocks from my home, and for months, I had seen this unique, artistic and eclectic setting come together as I drove by every day, and I knew we had to support this local business.  So, one Friday afternoon, my husband and I just so happened to have the day off together, and we decided to pay a visit to this local eatery.

As we walked in, I was impressed with the cheerful and airy atmosphere. It seemed like a restaurant right out of the suburbs of Seattle. Bright blue hues make this establishment feel upscale and classy. And I was even more impressed that the owner, Gia, is also the host, server and cook! A one-woman show. I was impressed, and knew I had found my new favorite hangout.

I first noticed the side-by-side tables for two, and the white textured wall framing a drum set and a piano on the back wall. Each table had its own unique glass sculpture centerpiece, with two adjoining place settings. And for those who just want to lounge, there’s an inviting, comfortable couch right in front of the windows, perfect for people watching.

daily specials

While my husband I were being visually entertained by the pristine interior designing skills of Gia, she welcomed us to sit down. She grabbed our drinks, and told us what she had on the menu today. There were only a few dishes, but they all sounded wonderful. We decided on the apple chicken salad for starters, the barbeque panini for our entrée, and smothered blueberry cobbler.

Gia does not currently write a menu, rather she decides what will be served for the day when she makes her morning trip to the grocery store. After purchasing the ingredients she needs, her day begins once she is back in the kitchen putting her culinary skills to the test.

music makes everything

Everything she served us that afternoon tasted wonderful! And I loved the background music, Prince’s Purple Rain album. In fact, there is a lot of musical influence to the Blue Café, since Gia also co-owns and helps run the Conservatory of Music right next door. This makes so much sense why we were surrounded by musical instruments and art while dining here. Music is a part of Gia’s life, and her love for all genres comes naturally.

I recently featured the Conservatory of Music last month on my blog during our wedding series. In addition, if you rent out the Conservatory, Gia will gladly cater your event! And what better way to acquaint yourself with her meal presentation than to make a visit and dine at her quaint café.

and there’s wine!

This is a true small business that I will continue to support for years to come. I love that the money I spend at Gia’s café goes directly to supporting music education for the community. It’s a total win-win. And a no-brainer in my opinion.

You also can support Gia’s business by attending one of her many wine tasting events. She has a lot going on monthly, and is constantly staying connected via social media. So make sure to check out her facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/1301bluecafe/).
