Named after her mother, Wilma Marie Bierle, co-owner, Laurie Wright, started her business in 2015. Originally, located in a small historical downtown building, she eventually had to move her business to a larger location.

Becoming more than popular

Within two years of opening her restaurant, word had spread that this was the place to go for amazing food. Hiring her daughter, Chef Rikka Kostal, to build her a delectable, yet gorgeous menu, was one of the best decisions she initially made.

Chef Rikka developed menu items that source out local and fresh ingredients. Partnering with nearby business owners, Willa B’s has become an asset to the Yankton downtown community.

So much so, that when I made my first visit to the Yankton visitor center, the front desk clerk recommended I make a stop here for lunch. Done!

Secondhand style

So, after my tour of Bishop Marty Chapel, I was hungry for lunch. Walking in, I first noticed the eclectic assembly of mid-century and vintage tables and chairs.

Sitting down, the waitress came over, handed me a menu and a glass of water. I promptly ordered a coffee, and began to look over the menu. Everything looked so good, but I eventually decided on The Denver egg sandwich. Ham, peppers, onions, mushrooms and cheddar, I could only finish half of it, but I knew my husband would enjoy a treat from my adventures today.

Artists welcome!

While waiting for my sandwich to be made I walked around admiring the art on the walls. Come to find out, Laurie also hired her other daughter, Chauntel Wright, to decorate their restaurant. Featuring regional artists, Willa B’s pairs up with local sculptures and painters to exhibit their pieces. Even local bands perform live shows throughout the year here.

Schedule your next event here

In addition, there’s a members-only monthly dinner club where Chef Rikka takes you on a world tour of food, all while you enjoy sipping on their local wine selection.

You can even rent out Willa B’s for your next event, gathering, prom, reception, or family reunion.

Plan your visit

Overall, I loved my experience at Willa B’s. I also love that it came highly recommended, and I plan to make it an essential stop every time I visit Yankton.

I hope you are able to show your support for this unique restaurant, and maybe pickup some local art while you’re there. Relax with a cup coffee, made from freshly ground coffee beans, prepared by their professional barista, Norm.

Don’t forget they cater!

Finally, don’t miss their baked scones, muffins and cupcakes. Pickup a custom order of cheesecake and cookies, or even have their famous Shaum Torte catered to your next event.
