I know we just finished touring Blue Haven Barn, but I would like to introduce you to an actual once-operational dairy barn on the property of Tim and Kalli Blackstone. Purchasing the acreage over ten years ago, Tim and Kalli, with the help of family and friends, began renovating the barn, salvaging as much as possible.

Meeting with Kalli on an early Tuesday morning, I was so excited to see the inside of this historic barn. Being a city girl, I can tell you I’ve only been in a handful of barns, but none like this one! Walking in I was immediately met with a surround sound of country music, and smells of old hardwood. Kalli greeted me, and after some small talk, she showed me around.

Maybe she’s barn with it…

Directly off to the left when you walk in there is a fully stocked bar with seating to accommodate a small gathering, but upstairs is where all the fun happens. Hanging from 25-foot ceilings are multiple chandeliers, along with string lighting, creating one of the most iconic backdrops I’ve ever seen in a wedding photo.

I’m sure you’ve seen pictures of couples getting married in a barn, surrounded by exposed wood beams with a touch of modern. If that sounds like the perfect event space for you, then look no further than The Canton Barn, LLC.

Get infarmed

Building out the barn to accommodate large gatherings, Tim and Kalli added a downstairs bar, expanded the upstairs dance floor, and even built a cozy fire pit with adequate seating. Meticulously maintaining the property, Tim and Kalli have preserved the old silo, added an artistic wheel framed fence, and positioned an old farm truck along the tree line.

In addition, there is a walkway that leads you to a gazebo which would be the perfect place for your outdoor ceremony. Then after the exchanging of vows, guests can move indoors, or continue to enjoy the beautiful South Dakota spring weather from the covered ground-level patio.

Prior to touring this venue, I could never see myself getting married in a barn, but after standing in this 100-year-old structure, I can now see the possibilities. With the capacity to seat 300 guests, this is a fairly moderately-sized venue for your event.

Barn to be wild

Not getting married soon? Or if you’re like me and you’re already married, then head on over to their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Thecantonbarn) where they post updates on upcoming gatherings, such as a Peaky Blinders themed Saint Patty’s Day party. How cool is that!?

And finally, check out their website (https://thecantonbarnllc.com/) for a gallery full of beautiful celebrations, and while you’re there check out more details on hosting your event here. For only being an hour drive from Sioux City, and located just outside of Sioux Falls, this is definitely on my list of places I’d like to visit again soon, and enjoy the country air.
