Whew! We are at the last restaurant on our list, and it happens to be the only coffee shop we will also be looking at. Opening their doors in December of 2015, Stone Bru, in just two years, opened up a second location after the demand was there.

community support

Operating as a small business, this was good news for owner, Brad Lepper. Quickly becoming a local favorite, I, personally, can say their coffee is better than the competitors. In fact, their coffee comes from the local coffee roaster, Caturra Coffee, a.k.a. “Coffee King”. I’ve mentioned before that this is the only place we go to purchase our coffee grounds. We were hooked after noticing the unmistakable improvement to the quality of our home-brewed coffee, and now we forgo purchasing coffee grounds from retailers, and go straight to the source.

This same source is used by Stone Bru, and every time I make my visit, purchase a mocha or latte, or even a cold brew, I know I’m getting quality. The smooth texture, rich flavors and aromas, and the variety of drinks make this coffee shop a must try for anyone who hasn’t.

Gordon drive location

Their first location on Gordon Drive serves brewed drinks and some pastries, and with a drive thru, this has become a convenient stop when I’m in Morningside. Patrons can go inside to order, and when you do, look up at all the different burlap bags on the ceiling tiles. Such creativity has me wanting to create my own coffee corner in my kitchen at home.

Dakota Dunes location

But I mentioned before that it is also a restaurant. Upon opening their second location in the Dakota Dunes, they wanted to expand the menu and bring in locally sourced and fresh ingredients to serve patrons during their commute to work in the morning, or on their lunch break.

With my chiropractor right across the street, I almost always make a monthly trip there right after my appointment. From the breakfast croissant to the turkey and avocado sandwich, there was no wrong pick. And of course, the fireplace! When you first walk in you are greeted by a cozy reading nook, then off to the left are reclaimed and repurposed wood tables with plenty of seating for forty guests. In addition, during the Spring and Summer months enjoy their outdoor seating while you sip on a refreshing frappe.

patiently waiting

I have not been to their third location, since it is more-or-less a satellite coffee shop in a car dealership, but for sure, I will be showing my support for their fourth location on Sunnybrook Drive which will be opening this Summer. For being a local establishment, Stone Bru has almost single-handedly taken over the coffee scene here in Sioux City. They even helped launch the annual Siouxland Coffee Festival!

So, if you have not tried their coffee yet, make sure to stop by and ask about their flavor of the month. Have you ever had a banana bread latte, or a Horchata iced coffee? So good! Stone Bru creates new and exciting blends monthly for their loyal customers, and they even have a rewards program. Speaking of, I believe I have a free latte waiting for me upon my next visit.
