For our third day in Okoboji we only had dinner planned, therefore during the morning and afternoon we pretty much winged it, and kept our schedule open to change. And one of those spur-of-the-moment decisions was to play a round of mini-golf.

The day before, we had walked past The Pirates Cove Adventure Golf right outside of Arnolds Park Amusement Park. And having been exhausted from all the sightseeing, we were not ready for an obstacle-filled eighteen-hole journey. Therefore, after waking up rested, we were ready for anything.

So, after fueling up on breakfast, we made our way to Arnolds Park, bought our tickets, selected our clubs and golf balls, and began our excursion. We both loved the pirate theme since it reminded us of our Florida honeymoon in Key West.

Ahoy, Mateys!

Life-sized pirates, shipwrecks and treasures dotted the landscape. At the beginning of every hole was a story about real-life pirates, and we learned a lot about the Scottish Captain Kidd and the famous Blackbeard. In addition to having a genuine good time, we also enjoyed a little history lesson about century-old sea-crossing bootleggers.

We got a kick out of the attention to detail. For example, the course had hills, bridges, rivers, and even a giant Great White shark! The July heat was to be expected, but we were delighted that the course was covered with a plethora of shade trees, and the light mist from the unexpected waterfall was quite refreshing.

Taking our time, and appreciating the relaxing atmosphere, we laughed along while watching children and their parents compete with each other. Overall, this unscheduled stop during our Okoboji trip ended up being a much-needed stress relief. And for under $9.00 each, we both agreed that we definitely got our money’s worth.
