The first time I brought my mom here to eat, she instantly fell in love with the small, quaint, hometown feel of this neighborhood coffee shop. In fact, now it has become her favorite place to stop when she’s in town.

My mom lives in Council Bluffs, and when she’s in town we always try to make a visit, even if it’s just for green matcha tea and a caramel latte.

25 years and going strong

Established in 1994, I’ve heard the owner elaborate that this is the oldest coffee shop in town. This fact they promote on their facebook page (facebook.com/piercestreetcoffeeworks), along with their famous and most popular sandwich, the Nutty Bird.

The nutty bird

I’ve had this sandwich multiple times, and it is my go-to, my all time favorite. My goal is to venture out and try the rest of the menu, but the Nutty Bird is just so good! I also notice there are salads on the menu…I really just need to win the lottery and eat here every day.

My mom is more adventurous than I am, and has tried something new every time. She always enjoys trying the daily specials. From what I can remember she’s had their grilled-cheese sandwich special and a turkey wrap. Both are not on their core menu, rather usually hand-written on the featured chalkboard menu.

An impressively large food menu

Besides the core menu, which has remained the same since they opened in 1994, they also have salads (as I’ve mentioned before) and soups! In addition, they have breakfast bagels, smoothies and create-your-own sandwiches. They cater to every individual, so you are bound to find something you like here.

Purple Ceilings!

Right away, my mom instantly fell in love with the ambiance and atmosphere before even ordering anything. Local artists’ photographs and paints lining the walls, fresh honey from nearby farmers, made-from-scratch chocolate cake and cookies from the neighbor across town, and various house plants.

Beautiful on the inside

It is so colorful and creative in here. I love the eclectic collection of tables and chairs. Even their unique purple ceiling generates attention. So much so, that the local paper wrote up an article, highlighting their curious color pallet choice.

So, if you’re a local, returning patron or visiting from out of town, make sure to show your support for the oldest coffee shop in town. Come hungry, and enjoy one of their many beverage choices.
