Out of all the restaurants we’ve been to this month, this is the only one I knew I had to feature on its own. Deserving its own blog post, I have tried more items off their menu than all the others this month.

I first heard of Neveria Y Antojitos via a local facebook food page dedicated to supporting local restaurants, and I came across a picture of a giant watermelon. Immediately, I knew I had to find out what this place was, where it was, and try this massive delicacy.

In addition, I wanted to know what other elaborate creations they had on their menu; therefore, I quickly became a regular customer. Plus, this unique establishment is about a five-minute drive from my house, making it an easy choice for a quick afternoon snack.

Crazy popsicles

Before I tried the “sandia loca” or “Crazy Watermelon” I, first, wanted to try the “paleta loca” or “Crazy Popsicle”. What I love about their selection, is you get to choose your ice cream flavor base, and which type of popsicle you want, and then they top it off with gummies and tahine (a kind of chili powder). And, if you are unfamiliar with tahine, it actually is really good on fruit, since it adds the perfect salty contrast to the natural sweet sugar in mangoes, melons, apples, and even peaches.

crazy watermelon

This tahine is also on the crazy watermelon, as well as Japanese peanuts, cantelope, and lots of gummies! Between the four of us, and after dividing and conquering, we even had a small bowl of left overs in the fridge.

waffle bowl

Making a conscious effort to support local businesses, I also wanted to try their ice cream waffle bowl, and I must say, it was one of the best dessert creations I’ve ever had. When you order this item off their menu, you get your choice of three ice cream flavors, and three different toppings. So good!

elote

Finally, Neveria Y Antojitos has a limited food menu, but one of their famous items is the well known Mexican delicacy called “Elote”. And after trying elote at a local food truck, I can honestly say, their elote is far superior to their competitors. If you have never had Elote, it is sweet corn, slathered in mayonnaise, Mexican crema, chili powder, and coated in Mexican cotija cheese. You can also get it in a cup off the cob called “Elote en vaso”.

repeat customer

Throughout Summer, this will, hands down, be my weekly snack spot, and I plan to eventually try as many items on their menu as feasibly possible. My only wish, is that I had found this national treasure sooner.
