Being one of the only boutique hotels in Sioux City, the Linda Sue Manor was built in 1896, and boasting the first telephone used in Sioux City, I know you’ll enjoy reading more about this treasured home on Jackson Street.

A brief history

Built by William Haley, this Queen Ann Victorian style home was formerly known as the Haley House. Sparing no expense, Haley filled his home with stunning, accented wood work and dramatic features. From a floor to ceiling mirror with South African mahogany, to a mosaic-like wood-tile floor, you’ll be teleported back to the turn-of-the-century.

Restored in 1998, the house was purchased by Kelly and Linda Conolly. Living in their home with their daughter, Brittany, from 2000-2016, the couple accumulated early 1900s furniture and period pieces that helped accent the Victorian theme of this 100-year-old residence.

After Linda lost her battle with cancer, Kelly and Brittany entertained the thought of selling the home, but knew no one would be able to invest the time needed to preserve this work of art. So instead, they turned it into a boutique hotel with a bed and breakfast feel, and named it Linda Sue Manor in honor of the matriarch herself, Linda Conolly.

One of Sioux City’s only boutique hotels

This boutique hotel is not only THE place to stay here in Sioux City, but also a wonderful rental option for family reunions, wedding planning parties, and even scrapbooking retreats. Rent the ballroom suite with your spouse, or the Purple Room as a solo traveler discovering Siouxland.

All six bedrooms are on the second and third floors, leaving the main floor acting as a shared common area. Including a fully functioning kitchen, cozy living room, and a magnificent dining room. You’ll feel right at home in the heart of Sioux City.

My initial visit and getting to know Brittany

My first visit here was during the Christmas Tour of Homes in 2017. Honestly, I was amazed such a beautiful house existed here in Sioux City, and I felt such pride for Brittany, the owner, after learning of her business venture in turning this into a place to stay for vacationers. I couldn’t wait for all of Sioux City to learn of this dazzling structure.

Then, in May of 2018, Brittany held an open house, and you better believe I planned to attend. Making sure I wasn’t scheduled for work that afternoon, I was so excited to get a more private tour of this breathtaking dwelling!

It was then that I talked with Brittany about renting the house for my engagement pictures. I knew this would be the perfect spot! Afterall, my now husband and I were getting married at the Railroad Museum, and this would go along with our rustic-Victorian theme.

Renting out the manor for your engagement photos

I could already envision how each room would look in the pictures, our dramatic poses, and the beautiful, vibrant and robust coloring. After discussing with my husband, I messaged Brittany shortly after the open house, booked our engagement photo session and started looking for my outfit.

It was a bright but brisk November day. The morning sun was shining through the windows, and my excitement was palpable. This house truly is a work of art, and how blessed am I to have found the Linda Sue Manor.

The main floor

Now, back to the house! When you first walk in off to the right is the large sitting area with an enormous floor to ceiling mirror, a large vintage rug, and delicate furniture.

Off to the left is the grand staircase and its intricate landing. I love the wood tile work here, and the birdcages. Very cute touch.

Connected to the front parlor is the living room. Cozy and relaxing defines this space as the sun shines through the large bay windows.

Across the hallway is the dining room. This has to be my favorite room of the entire house. The built in China hutch and enchanting furniture create an inviting atmosphere. I can just envision and almost hear the exciting conversations.

Master suite

Upstairs, on the second floor is the Master Suite. Spacious and romantic, you’ll be surrounded by an elegant 5-piece furniture set, access to an en-suite bathroom, rest in a queen size bed, and enjoy a private window sitting area.

Pink room

Also on the second floor is the Pink Room. Drawing in bright sunlight like a magnet through a wall of windows, this light and cheerful room includes a queen size bed and an oversized dresser with a mirror.

Purple room

Lastly on the second floor is the Purple Room. Painted this color to honor Linda’s sister, Peg, who passed away from pancreatic cancer, this room was once the nurse’s room, and a walk-through closet connects to the nursery. Present day, the nursery room still exists, but functions as a dressing room. The large closet is perfect for a bride and groom to hang their garments, and don’t overlook the full-size mirror!

Tiffany blue room

Making your way to the third floor, you’ll enter the Tiffany Blue Room. Dainty and stylish define this simplistic room. Perfect for a weary single traveler, or a young adult wanting their own space while on vacation with the family.

Secret garden room

Across the hallway is the Secret Garden Room. Tucked away in the furthest corner of the top floor, this room truly feels like a home away from home. Alluring and charming, this oasis includes a double bed and floral patterns. Peaceful and warm, you’ll enjoy your rest from the outside world.

Ballroom suite

Saving the best for the last is the crème de la crème, the Ballroom Suite. Swanky yet delicate, this room allows for a honeymooning couple to relax and enjoy this large space. Fashioned with a king size bed and a private sitting area, you’ll have access to the floors below via your very own personal staircase.
