Last week we looked at a long-standing restaurant here in Sioux City, and today, we are going to feature another infamous eatery, Johnnie Mars. Operating at the same location on the corner of 5th and Floyd Boulevard for the past 24 years, this is one of my husband’s favorite places to eat.

family-owned

For years I had heard people raving about Johnnie Mars, and how they eat there two or three times a week. Commenting on how the exceptional service from all the loyal and familiar staff make them, too, feel like family.

Owned by a local Greek family, Johnnie Mars is notorious here in town for serving some of the best Greek food in Siouxland. However, even though you can order a Gyro and Baklava, my husband and I go here for a traditional breakfast.

greek food and beyond

Personally, I think it was a genius business move to specialize in Greek food, but to also serve the community by broadening their menu to include a varying selection of traditional American entrées. This is a wonderful approach to introduce new customers to your business, and have them try some authentic ethnic Greek food.

bird brained

Every time we go here, we’re surrounded by roosters. Truthfully, I’m not sure what the meaning behind this unique décor is, but it makes the dining room very homey and welcoming. Plus, this is a perk of being a small business owner, you can build and decorate what you want, how you want, and by doing so, you create something that is specific to you.

greekfest!

Building rapport with customers, and producing an unparalleled experience for their patrons allows Johnnie Mars to stand out from the rest. An added bonus, you’ll find your favorite Greek family at the yearly GreekFest every July at the Greek Orthodox Church on 6th Street.

patiently waiting

When restaruants open back up, this will be one of the first places I take my mom for a simple, but well-worth-the-wait meal. Also, to show my support for this time-honored family ran business, I plan on purchasing one of their hoodies.
