I’m assuming you’ve been golfing once in your life? Well, have you ever been golfed on castle land? On our way out of town after Eric so graciously gave us a tour of Ida Grove, my husband and I stopped in at Ida Grove’s Golf & Country Club.
Walking in it looks like you are in a literal medieval dungeon, with red velvet carpet, cast iron fixtures and 30-foot ceilings. Staring back at you as you walk through the front door are floor to ceiling windows overlooking an 18-hole course.
Let’s Par-Tee!
Introducing myself to Jan, the country club manager, and mentioning that Eric sent me (I swear that name alone has gotten me into so many hidden gems), she gave us keys to one of their golf carts and had her assistant take us to another iconic stop in Ida Grove. The Castle Bridge.
Following Jan’s assistant, my husband quite enjoyed driving a golf cart through an array of trees planted all around the fairways. Arriving at the infamous Castle Bridge, I was enthralled that, yet again, I was witness to one of the most iconic landmarks in Ida Grove.
Located on the green is an amazing sight to behold, a castle bridge that looks like it came right out of Windsor, England. Built over a small river, this bridge is guarded by two knights in armor, protecting its entrance from weary travelers. After walking onto the bridge, and looking out over the beautiful landscape, Jan’s assistant invited us to yet another strategic viewpoint where I got more amazing pictures of the topography.
Plan your visit
I may have lettered in golf while in high school, and yes it has been 20 years since, but I would definitely take up an offer to spend an afternoon golfing on this picturesque countryside. And then, maybe quench my thirst with a well-deserved cocktail in their downstairs club, or even relax on their back patio.
So, if you are in town, and looking for a leisurely afternoon activity, then stop in at the golf club. For pricing go to Ida Grove’s city website (https://idagroveia.com/places/ida-grove-golf-and-county-club/), and for a current list of events visit the Golf & Country Club’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100063648098531).
