Last week we visited our first pumpkin patch of the season in Sioux Center, and this week we are going to our second pumpkin patch in Le Mars. Bringing my cousin along with me last week, I decided to invite her along on this adventure as well.

Pumpkin patching

When we arrived, I immediately noticed how different this pumpkin patch was compared to the first. In fact, all five are different in their own ways, and Le Mars did not disappoint. Greeted by the owner, I was surprised to find out that not a lot of locals in Le Mars know about this pumpkin patch.

Being slightly smaller than Sioux Center, what I liked about Le Mars location is that it seemed more encased and contained than the open concept of Fields of Fun. You start off in the gift shop, where admission is $7 each, and make your way around to all the hands-on exhibits, passing by the fire pit, the haunted house (my personal favorite), and the hoops which inspired me and Rosie to have a shoot off.

Donkey, goats and Llamas, oh my!

There were creative scarecrows that didn’t look too scary, all dressed up for date night. We did meet some horses, but we declined to go on a carriage ride, but instead we walked along the property line checking out their crops and the pumpkins in the patch.

In addition to horses, there was a petting zoo with some very sociable goats, a donkey who brays with excitement when kids come running up to him, and even some friendly farm cats and dogs. Surprisingly, the owner said all her farm animals let out cries of sadness in 2020 when they refrained from opening due to Covid. But now that business is back to normal, sounds of gleeful delight fill the air.

Plan your visit

Overall, Rosie and I thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon here in Harvest Hollow, sipping hot apple cider, admiring the artistic Mr. and Mrs. Pumpkin head creations, and next time we will definitely take our time to relax around the fire pit. And being that this is a half-way point for me and Rosie to meet up, I can see us making this an annual tradition in the years to come.

Finally, being that Le Mars is only a half hour drive from Sioux City, this could be an eventful stop for you and your family.
