Of course, we’ve covered Falls Park, it was one of the first things we visited on our tour of Sioux Falls. Therefore, I feel it’s fitting to make a full circle, head back to the falls, and finish our tour of the Queen City with a lunch at Falls Overlook Café! In fact, one of their claims to fame is the variety of ice cream flavors they offer, and their grab n’ go lunches, persuading patrons to partake in a family-friendly eventful picnic.

Venue with a view

When my friend, Taylor, and I planned our visit, we specifically went here for lunch so we could also enjoy the view of the falls, have a light snack, and stroll through the park. So, on this beautiful Spring day, we strategically chose our seats by the window, overlooking the falls, hence the café’s name, and planned out the rest of our day.

Per usual, I did do some research on this establishment, and found out you can rent this venue for your next event. With a slew of graduations coming upon us this May and June, along with wedding season in full bloom, I can imagine their schedule must be booked solid.

Family owned and operated

And this iconic location is family owned and operated! The Stensland’s own a farm 15 minutes outside of Sioux Falls, and have been able to capitalize on their ice cream-making talents and farm-fresh ingredients to feed their patrons at not just the Overlook Café, but also at four other locations around town, including a concession stand at the Midco Aquatic Center.

So, if you didn’t get to try all 15 rotating ice cream flavors in one afternoon, you have four more chances at their other locations. My friend and I opted to not get ice cream on our initial visit, since we had plans to meet up with another friend later that afternoon, but believe you me, I have all Summer to get my revenge on this tasty treat.

Plan your visit

In all, we enjoyed our morning at the Falls Overlook Café, and, to be honest, I originally thought this eatery was simply ran and operated by South Dakota Parks and Recreation, but I was pleasantly surprised to find out this iconic 1908 power plant now is home to one of the best places to grab lunch in Sioux Falls, and with some of the best views in all of Siouxland.

If you would like more information on prices and availability for your next event, view their menu, and learn more about the Stensland family check out the Falls Overlook Café website (https://fallsoverlook.com/). You can even visit the Stensland Family Farm website (https://www.stenslandfamilyfarms.com/) to shop their online store and even book a farm tour! In fact, we may need to plan a visit to this amazing homestead in the Fall, so expect some more trips to Sioux Falls!

Finally, check out the Overlook Café’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/fallsoverlook) for upcoming community events, and don’t forget to head over to the Stensland Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/stenslandfamilyfarms) and find your favorite ice cream flavor. Bubble gum, lemon poppyseed, and Key Lime cheesecake are just some of their popular flavors.
