I’ve been to several greenhouses, but non more beautifully organized than this. My initial visit came after seeing a “Grand Opening” on facebook Claussen’s was having.
After the cold winter months, it was nice to get motivated seeing plants and flowers come to life. Likewise, the month before I went to the Garden Show at the Hilton where I sat in on a lecture about Master Gardening.
Support Local Growers
I found my creative self itching to get inspired, and I knew if I were going to purchase any hanging plants, bulbs or creative garage art, I was going to support a local business. From my personal experiences I know local businesses have more in-depth knowledge on their area of expertise.
With almost 60 years of experience, who better to answer my questions.
When I made my initial visit in April 2018 there were three large greenhouses at their nursery location in Jefferson, SD. (I want to be specific on what location I visited since they have offices in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.) In addition, I say “there were” since one of the employees said they are expanding, so this coming summer may look different.
It’s motivating thinking about the systematic planning that must go into designing these greenhouses.
Their Story
After touring their inventory of plants and flowers, I made my way to one of the employees, and asked questions regarding their business.
I learned the Claussen family started their business in the 1950s, establishing 30 greenhouses across Siouxland. Changing hands in 2005, the business was sold, but the name remained.
Under new ownership, the company has been taken beyond greenhouses and into landscaping and construction. Reaching out into the community, The Claussen Group, uses their expertise to design landscaping projects all around Siouxland.
Landscaping
Hard Rock Casino, Seaboard Triumph Foods and Tyson Meats are just a few of the establishments for which they have contracted with to design, build and maintain landscaping projects.
Residential or commercial, they take pride in managing and personalizing your image seen from the curb to the front door to the office interior.
