Ever been to a speakeasy? Well, allow me to introduce you to the Carpenter Bar. Not necessarily a hidden speakeasy, but this establishment primarily only serves cocktails with an extremely limited menu, featuring cheese and nut charcutier boards. From its sleek outwardly design, to the simple interior, you get the idea that you have just stepped into an oasis. With limited seating and only two bartenders, this location has garnered a cult following.

Easy going in a Speakeasy

After an afternoon of shopping, my friend and I wanted a drink in the later afternoon. Not realizing many restaurants and bars don’t open until after 4pm in downtown Sioux Falls, we stumbled upon the Carpenter Bar, which opens an hour earlier than their surrounding counterparts.

Walking in, I immediately noticed the beautiful blue walls contrasting the sculpted bronze and gold accents, along with the mounted goat and elk heads. This seemed like a high-class bar for the esteemed colleagues in your life, and upon visiting their website (https://thecarpenterbar.com/), I confirmed my initial perceptions. In fact, on their website they credit their mixologists, not bartenders, to the success of their ever-evolving hand-crafted cocktails.

Instagram-worthy drinks

So, wanting to try these fancy drinks, I first ordered the Black Clover, which, to my surprise, was served with an egg white in the mixture of Tattersall barrel-aged gin and black cherry syrup! This created a warm foamy texture, thus adding a unique flavor to this drink.

My friend and I enjoyed an hour of quaint ambiance, chatting and planning our next moves, and we both agreed that our husbands would love this atmosphere. I ordered one more drink, the Coco La Palm, and admired the detail put forth in even the garnish of this Instagram-worthy concoction.

Plan your visit

Overall, this would be the perfect place to end, or begin, your night of Sioux Falls’ sightseeing. Relaxing atmosphere and professional staff make this spot a must-see on my next visit to the Queen City. In addition, anyone can pour you a drink, but it takes a knowledgeable expert proficient in the art of cocktail crafting to bring you a perfectly blended drink with flavors that enhance the aromatic tones of high-quality liqueur.
