We’re almost done with our tour, and second to last on our list has to be the most interactive venue we’ve travelled to all month. Located an hour and a half east of Sioux City, this little town of Storm Lake, Iowa has an amazing gift to give Siouxlanders: Kings Pointe Resort and Waterpark.
Situated on the northeast corner of the lake, Kings Pointe Waterpark and Resort allows guests an amazing view of the 3,000-acre lake and beyond. Open primarily during the summer, the waterpark receives an approximate 80,000 visitors yearly, which is almost the population of Sioux City!
Grill and chill
However, for the times when the waterpark is closed, especially during the Fall and Winter, there is still lots to do at Kings Pointe. For example, you have the indoor waterpark, paddle boarding, cabin rentals, golfing and even walking along the paved trails. And after your walk what better way to watch the sunset than sitting shoreside at Regatta Grill.
Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, this would honestly be THE place to dine at while on vacation in Storm Lake. Unfortunately, we arrived just after breakfast, while the staff was resetting the restaurant for lunch. But my husband and I both agreed that this will definitely be a place for us to relax during one of our upcoming “stay-cations”.
There’s no place like home
Meeting with Trisha, the events director of Kings Pointe, and who also gave us a grand tour of the facilities, she graciously showed us around and boasted about the property and their upcoming improvements they have planned to increase tourism.
Such as, increasing their marketing radius to locals living three hours away, allowing them to target families looking for a getaway, but without the expensive price tag. In fact, after starting this ad campaign, they’ve noticed an uptick in visitors. Guests traveling from South Dakota and Omaha, Nebraska are finding their way here. People are less like to fly due to the unpredictable airline industry, and with the initiative from nearby communities urging patrons to keep their money local, it makes sense to consider destinations closer to home.
Go with the float
In fact, my husband and I drove around the property before meeting up with Trisha, and we noticed how many lakeside cabins there were, and how beautifully maintained the landscaping was. They are called “Sunrise Cottages” and each one sleeps up to eight people, and also comes complete with an outdoor grill, private patio and a full kitchen.
But we were more interested in the waterpark during our visit, we even had our bathing suits on under our clothes! So, after our tour, we walked over to the admissions desk, tickets are only $15 per person, and we found a spot to nestle our belongings away while we got in the water.
Wanting to continue our relaxing day, we opted to not go down the 30-foot slides, and instead floated down the lazy river, four times! After getting my pictures of the resort, and being very careful not to drop my camera in the water, we made our way back home.

We truly enjoyed our visit at Kings Pointe, so much so, that we plan to visit again in the near future. I would love to relax with a Mai Thai and watch the sunset from Regatta Grill. And if you are a couple looking for a place to wed, I highly recommend this location.
During our tour Trisha showed us the outdoor lawn where most ceremonies are performed, which has a beautiful lakefront backdrop, then we moved in doors to the ball room which seats 270 guests. One last thing! Trisha told us to head down to the Snack Shack and get ourselves a Chicago Dog, which is what we did on our way out of town. So good! And we got a chance to see some more scenic views of the lake. This would totally be my go to on a hot summer day, relaxing on the sand, then occasionally walking up to the Snack Shack for some ice cream and maybe a pretzel.
