If you are just now reading this article, then this past month of October we were on a mission to visit five pumpkin patches in the Siouxland area. We drove all over in search of the local pumpkin patches to visit, and we found some awesome local businesses. Come along with us as we recap our fall fun!
Fields of Fun
The first pumpkin patch we visited was all the way in Sioux Center, Iowa. Driving an hour north and meeting up with my cousin Rosie, this was my first encounter with a small-town pumpkin patch. Not knowing what to expect, I was pleasantly surprised with how many varieties of pumpkins and gourds there were to choose from, as well as all the locally made jams and jellies.
What I also liked about this pumpkin patch was the different corn mazes! Rosie and I traversed all three, but we loved that little children have a chance to explore a smaller version, which is a perfect size for growing minds. I also learned a lot about corn, sunflowers and other crops from the interactive hands-on activities and play areas.

Harvest Hollow
During my time living in Sioux City I’ve made many trips up to Le Mars and found that it is a wonderfully pleasant town. Then while looking up pumpkin patches I was surprised to find one in Le Mars. So, being that the “Ice Cream Capitol of the World” is only half an hour away from me, naturally, I had to plan my visit.
My cousin, Rosie, accompanied me on my trek up here as well, and we found that we especially loved how colorful this pumpkin patch is. For being a small-town destination, this local pumpkin patch has lots to do for its patrons. From a horse-drawn hayrack ride to a life-size chess set, your kids will enjoy an afternoon here while you relax in front of the firepit.

Poppy’s Pumpkin Patch
Driving an hour and a half to Norfolk, Nebraska, this pumpkin patch was easily the largest of all five I visited this past month. Even though it is the furthest away from Sioux City, don’t discount this lovely local business. Owned by a local family, like all of these pumpkin patches on our list, Poppy’s Pumpkin Patch has so much to offer.
Out of all the pumpkin patches I visited this past month, Poppy’s hands-down had the most activities to interact with. From the sandbox and haunted forest, to the pioneer village and the twin racer slide, you and your kids will have a full day of adventure. And while you’re here stop in and pick up some locally made crafts and maybe even feed the ducks!

Hoefling’s Pumpkin Patch
The same day I drove to Norfolk, Nebraska, I headed the opposite direction, back tracking through Sioux City, and headed out to Marcus, Iowa. And for being the smallest pumpkin patch we’ve visited this month, surprisingly they have 100 varieties of pumpkins and gourds to choose from. Located about 45 minutes northeast of Sioux City, Hoefling’s Pumpkin Patch in Marcus, Iowa is a perfect day trip for you and your family. When you step inside the main barn you’ll find homemade crafts and treats to take home, and even some festive decorations for your next Halloween party or Friendsgiving get together.
Personally, I look forward to discovering new little towns around Sioux City, and coming across small businesses to support and write about. This is one of those unique destinations. When you make your way here hop on the hayrack ride for a corn maze tour, get hands-on experience with old farm equipment and play bowling with pumpkins.

Mazing Acres Pumpkin Patch
Last on our list, and one of the newest pumpkin patches in the Siouxland and Sioux Empire area is Yankton’s pumpkin patch. Mazing Acres is located about nine miles west of downtown Yankton, South Dakota and is worth the drive since this pumpkin patch is on it’s way to profitable and potential growth. Yankton is hands-down one of my most favorite towns in the entire Siouxland area, so I was ecstatic to hear they have a pumpkin patch.
Making it with just days to spare before the pumpkin patch season was over, my husband and I arrived and immediately noticed how much land this location has. With everything from yellow duckie water races, potato slingshots and an obstacle course, you’ll have a fun-fill fall day exploring and maybe even conquering the corn maze. And before you leave take part in their scavenger hunt and then submit your vote for your favorite scarecrow!
