After eating all that Mexican food last month, we’ll need to burn off some calories! And since we are changing seasons from Spring to Summer, and the weather is absolutely lovely outside, I decided to dedicate the month of June to discovering some Siouxland parks, outdoor recreation, and woodsy trail adventures.
We will be visiting small local parks, to large state parks; walking handicap accessible paved trails, to semi-difficult forest trails. We’ll even visit a local urban legend!
Outdoor fun
Getting outdoors and experiencing your local parks is one of the best ways to support your community. Whether, you are renting a covered shelter for your family reunion, or plan to grill out for a birthday party, you’ll have access to playgrounds, bathrooms, and a beautiful backdrop for your next planned event.
I, personally, have attended a work party at one of the cabins in Stone Park, spent Christmas at Adams Homestead, enjoyed the annual ArtSplash fair at Riverside Park, and ran the entire three-mile long trail at Bacon Creek. Plus, now that I have a mountain bike, I’ll be able to discover more trails in record time! I even have plans to take my two Dachshunds on my adventures so they can enjoy the dog parks, walk the trails with me, and socialize with the many forest critters we’ll meet along the way.
What to expect
I’ll try my best to give you as much information about each park, what the rental fee is if you were wanting to plan a gathering, and if they are dog friendly. In all, I have seven parks planned for June, however, there are obviously more in Siouxland, and we’ll be looking at more parks later in the year.
If you have not been to many parks in the area, and are wanting more information, I hope this gives you a better understanding of what to expect, and motivates you to get out and explore nature.
