Deciding to spend our one-year anniversary close to home, by husband and I opted for a local vacation. And when I found out Okoboji was part of the Siouxland territory, I knew I had to feature it on my blog eventually. Therefore, we will be doing a two-month special, and for the months of August and September I will be posting blog posts about things to do, see and try in Okoboji.

Celebrating our one-year anniversary!

For three days during the first week of July last month, my husband and I vacationed in Okoboji, and we enjoyed every minute of our experience. So much so, that we intend to plan a second visit next year. Due to COVID-19 there were a few things we were not able to see and some events we missed out on, and some days we just ran out of time. Therefore, we already have our itinerary planned out for 2021, which will make next Summer’s visit much more productive.

But do not be discouraged, we were still able to do a lot, and I mean a lot! For starters, we ate breakfast at O’Farrell Sisters, lunch at the Gardens, and dinner at the Barefoot Bar. We played mini golf, took a boat tour of the lake, tried beer samples at the local West O Brewery, and bought a few souvenirs at the Central Emporium.

But wait there’s more!

We toured the outdoor settlement of Abbi Gardner, and walked down memory lane at the Classic Car Museum. There will be lots to see this month, and we didn’t even do half of what’s available for visitors and tourists. One thing we will bring next year are swimsuits! This way we can swim in the lake, and even rent jet skis for a day on the water. We even missed out on Arnold’s Park! We realized we didn’t have enough time in our day to plan an afternoon, so we decided when we go back, we’ll make sure to dedicate an entire day to Arnold’s Park, their rides, restaurants, and concession stands.

Plan your visit

Finally, you don’t need to travel far out of state, or even to the opposite side of the world for exciting things to do and see. Siouxland has a lot to offer, and I hope after this month, you will become even more eager to support our local towns and their businesses.
