The last visit on our shopping tour is probably the most influential of them all. Hotopp Jewelry & Gifts has been in business for nearly sixty years, and continues to make a lasting legacy. And just as its name implies, yes they do sell jewelry, but they have expanded to be so much more.
Okay, honestly, I have to admit, at first I thought this store was an “old lady” store, full of grandma-like trinkets, dusty vintage jewelry, and stuffy retro handbags, but I was wrong! Yet again, Le Mars has surprised me, and helped me change my perception of Iowa. In fact, now that I know how knowledgeable the experts are who make Hotopp the legend it is, I will be brining my wedding ring here to be properly cleaned.
Lady of the rings
Ever since Thorpe’s closed in Sioux City, I was heartbroken, but more than that, I was worried I wouldn’t find someone who could take precious care of my belongings. I refuse to patron the popular jewelry stores, since much of their employees have no idea how to handle family heirlooms such as mine. Thank goodness for Hotopp! I take comfort knowing this small-town locally owned business has the professional know-how of jewelry repair, and you can’t beat their friendly customer service.
For this alone, I’ll be making a trip to Le Mars every-other month to clean my wedding ring and check out what new items have recently arrived. In fact, when you visit their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Hotopp-Jewelry-Gifts-144471382271511) you’ll find wedding gift ideas, Easter creations, and maybe even some estate jewelry! Also, you’ll find information about your birthstone on Hotopp’s website (https://hotoppjewelry.com/), and while you’re there, read a little more about their history.
Plan your visit
In all, Hotopp is more than just your grandma’s store. As mentioned before, they have expanded to not only include jewelry, but also various gifts, wall art, and clocks. And after being in business for over half a century, these ladies and gentlemen who run and operate this shop must obviously know a little bit of how to sustain a successful establishment.
I hope that after introducing you to small-town shopping, you are more apt to keep your money local, and support small businesses. You can honestly spend an eventful morning and afternoon in Le Mars, Iowa, but there is so much more than just shopping, and up next is a chance to rest your feet, and enjoy a show at the Brown’s Theater.
