Have you ever tried a juice fast? Or any fast? I decided to go on a seven-day fast with a coworker about three weeks ago. I limited myself to water, broth and juice. After starting my fast my co-worker told me about a business in the mall that serves organic juice drinks, smoothies and even fruit bowls. Whaaaaa? And that it’s locally owned by a couple who wanted to start their own business. How awesome is that?!

My initial visit

What better way and timing to try out their products? So, Tuesday afternoon, right before work, I made my first visit.

I parked by the Barnes and Noble entrance, walked in, and found it on the corner, right next to Hot Topic. Super easy to find, and a great location.

Their menu

The first thing I noticed was their hand-written menu on a black chalk board. I told Vanessa, one of the owners, I was currently on day two of a liquid fast, and interested in trying out a couple juice options. I immediately saw on their menu “Beet It” and “Green Giant”.

“Beet It” consists of beets, apples, carrots and ginger, and “Green Giant” has in it kale, cucumber, apple, lemons and ginger. I couldn’t choose one from the other, so I got both.

My first thoughts were the beets would fill me up, and help me get through my 5-hour restaurant shift I was headed to, and the kale would give me the energy to finish the night off.

“Beet it”

I’m more used to smoothies, so when I took my first sip of “Beet It” I was reminded that it is pure juice, with no additives, and oh so good!

I was also reminded of what beets taste like, since they are the main ingredient in this juice drink, but I also tasted the apple and the ginger, however, I could not really taste the carrot.

I was expecting my tongue to have a red tint, but upon checking it looked normal. I drank it fairly fast, and felt quite full afterwards.

“Green giant”

In the middle of my shift I drank the “Green Giant”. This one was more flavorful than “Beet It”. And as I thought, it gave me the energy I needed, and filled me up.

Their website and facebook page

As usual, after visiting a new locally-ran small business, I had to visit their website (fresh-cold-press.buisiness.site) and their facebook page (facebook.com/freshcoldpress). You can view their menu on their website, and weekly updates on their facebook page.

More to try on their menu

Since my initial visit, I’ve gone back for another “Green Giant” and a “Kale Yeah” smoothie for breakfast. I still want to try a fruit bowl and walk around the mall drinking from a coconut!

Their prices are reasonable, about $5 for each drink, and make sure you get their punch card. On your 10th visit, you get a free drink! I’m on three punches now, but I’ll have that filled up by the end of the month.

Healthier options

I asked Vanessa why she started her business, and as I suspected, it was attributed to her searching for healthier options and improving her’s and her family’s daily diet.

I was surprised to find out they have been in business for over two years now. Sometimes it takes that long for word to get out! And now that I search for small, local business weekly, I’m finding more about my community all the time.

Farmer’s market and Food truck fridays

Using locally grown produce, Fresh Cold Press is also at the Farmer’s Market. So, while perusing all the products our local farmers are selling for the week, enjoy a breakfast smoothie or even a frozen “Press-sickle”.

Open daily at the mall 10:00 a.m. every morning, make sure you also support their food truck on Food Truck Fridays! I know I plan to show my support wherever they go.
