Starting off our tour of Sioux Falls with a bang! Let’s get our frustrations out! I know we all have had a rough year, and with all that built up energy from being quarantined for practically all of 2020, we need some physical therapy, in the form of breaking things!
Ever wanted to know what it would feel like to hurl a dinner plate at the wall, or fast pitch a beer bottle to the floor with no regard to anyone’s safety? Then, I have a place for you! Escapades in Sioux Falls is not just known for Escape Rooms, but also some epic Smash Rooms, and even Axe Throwing.
Epic Bachelorette Party!
After announcing her engagement, my best friend, Katie, started planning her bachelorette party. With plenty of ideas being thrown in her direction, she finally settled on Escapades. And I couldn’t wait for destruction to be at my fingertips!
I was already planning what I would break, and how I would do it. Dinner plates, flower vases, tea cups, and figurines. You know, things you’ve thought about throwing at your kids…
So, being the best Maid of Honor that I know I am, I called, booked our event, and read through some disclosures. For the Smash Room, face and shoe coverings are required, as are mechanics overalls and gloves. This is to protect your eyes, shoes and body from flying shards of glass. In addition, the Smash Room is divided with a wall partition, and one person per section is allowed, this way no one is in the direct path of flying debris.
Ready, aim, break!
A few weeks later, we made our way up to Sioux Falls to celebrate Katie’s bachelorette party. Arriving at Escapades, we checked in, suited up in our overalls, gloves, shoe coverings and helmets. I felt like we were going into a war zone, and I was ready for impact!
Loud speakers played music into the rooms, and we got to pick any genre of our preference, so we chose 90s rap, grabbed our baseball bats, and ganged up on some fine dining ware.
After getting physical, I had a chance to talk with the owners, who told us they started their business with a handful of shipping containers, built one small Smash Room, then realized people all over Siouxland had pent up frustrations, and were willing to pay for an afternoon of violence. So, they expanded, bought more shipping containers, and purchased a building.
The Paris Heist
In addition to Smash Rooms, they expanded their business to include Escape Rooms and Axe Throwing. Therefore, after taking on the Smash Room, we went to dinner, then came back to put our minds together to conquer the Kardashian Escape Room.
That’s right, we played puzzle after puzzle to unlock mysteries and brainteasers for an hour straight. And with just two minutes to spare, we escaped the Kardashians! Surprisingly, I enjoyed this more than the Smash Room, because it took all six of us, putting our energy together, to tackle each riddle.
Overall, we had a blast! It cost us each $60 for the Smash Room and the Escape Room, and now that we know there are other Escape Rooms with different themes, we may just need to plan a Summer adventure at Escapades.
Plan to have a “smashing time”
You can also book if you have an upcoming birthday party, special event, or even a company meeting. In fact, Escapades offers not only escape rooms, but also Escape Games! Meaning, instead of a series of rooms full of puzzles, you have board games full of trivia which require strategy and tactics to find the answers and escape the game.
