The first time I visited this iconic downtown store was Small Business Saturday in November 2017. Looking around, I realized this was nothing like antique stores I’ve been in before. Every piece hand-picked and individually positioned on shelves surrounded by like items.

This store is beautifully designed. Elegant and stylish. Old hard-wood floors, creaking and echoing when you walk. Friendly staff that know their local history, and the story behind every article of clothing, tapestry, lamp and piece of furniture.

Unique one-of-a-kind accessories

Since then, I’ve made my way there more than a handful of times. Most of the earrings I wear, I have purchased here. I’ve even converted vintage clip-ons to pierced earrings! I love when people ask where I get my jewelry, since it gives me a chance to introduce them to this charming location.

Postcards

Without fail, every time I make my visit here, I head strait to their post card collection. There are post cards dating back to 1908. Holding something so simple, yet 100 years old, is always food for my soul. I admire the beauty and precision of the handwriting, and the fact that there are no addresses, just the name and city. Towns were so small 100 years ago; the mailman knew the entire population.

Steve and Randy

Every time I stop by, I end up chatting with the owners, Randy and Steve. Through our conversations I’ve learned they know Martha Stewart! She will call asking if they have a specific item in their inventory. She must be a collector of antiques.

Hollywood

I’ve also learned Hollywood directors and producers will call them requesting an authentic turn-of-the-century or mid-century dress. Randy will send them three, they choose one, then send back the other two. How interesting and fulfilling! However, the costume designers still need to fit the dress to the Hollywood actress, because surprisingly, even the tiniest actresses cannot fit into these costumes. Randy told me, women 100 years ago were so malnourished, they were even smaller than a size 0.

Plan Your Visit

There are so many more stories I’ve heard from these two characters. Everything from weddings, hats, fur coats and shoes! Steve and Randy are two of the most pleasant people I’ve ever met, and I hope you feel the same when you make your visit. Pick their brains. Combined, they have years of experience, and so much to teach.
