I don’t need to really welcome you to Le Mars, since in the past we’ve visited several businesses and gone to a few events here already. In fact, my very first blog post two years ago was the Plymouth County Historical Museum, followed by a lunch-date visit to Lally’s Diner.
Since then, I’ve made trips up to Le Mars regularly to see the Christmas decorations at the Pioneer Village, attended the Plymouth County Fair, and even had ice cream at the Wells Visitor Center. In addition, I’ve enjoyed a cup of coffee at Habitue while strolling down Central Ave, peering through business storefront windows.
So much to see and do
Le Mars is truly a hidden gem. Being only a half hour drive from Sioux City, vacationers looking to stay local can enjoy an eventful day visiting parks, shopping downtown, admiring the many murals, and even go on a scavenger hunt. That’s right, since Le Mars is the “Ice Cream Capital of the World” city officials have taken advantage of this title, and strategically placed ice cream cone shaped sculptures all around town; all with different colors and themes. You can even find a map to guide you along your journey to locate all 56 cones across town via the Le Mars city website (https://www.lemarsiowa.com/406/Maps).
Throughout the month of March we will be visiting restaurants, retailers, a toy store, and even a nationally recognized steakhouse. And along with enjoying a beer flight at the local brewery, we’ll also attend a show at the famous Browns Theater.
Le Mars has a lot to offer, and for those who have cancelled their travel plans due to unforeseen circumstances, maybe look a little closer to home. You don’t always need to search vacation spots hundreds of miles away, when you have your own backyard to discover. Support Siouxland businesses, and remember to shop local!
