Introduction
After visiting the Plymouth County Historical Museum, my friend and I went for lunch at Lally’s Eastside Restaurant. According to Maps, it’s only a 10 minute walk from the museum, but we drove on this January afternoon. We were obviously not used to small town diners, since we stood near the front desk awkwardly, until someone told us to seat ourselves. We are fancy city folk! Kidding.
Joann
Our waitress’ name was Joann. Her parents bought the restaurant when she was 10, and that’s also when she started working there. It’s been more than 50 years, and it’s still the recommended place to go for good food and good people.
The Menu
I ordered the hot beef sandwich for only $6.95, which was AMAZING! I loved it! Nothing left on my plate. My friend ordered the 2 piece chicken meal of the day, for a little over $8, which came with corn, a bread roll and a brownie cake dessert.

While leaving I saw a rustic sign by the front door: “Ask about our Painting Classes”. So I went back in, and inquired. We met Stacey, who manages their facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/lallyseastside/), and who also teaches their painting classes. She showed me various past and upcoming projects. Classes are generally $20 to $30 depending on the degree of difficulty. For only a half hour drive out of Sioux City, and to be able to take something home that I made by hand, I would take one of her classes in the near future.
Conclusion
We will be going back soon for their dinner buffet for $12.99 at 5pm on Mondays and Fridays. This quaint diner has a homey, small town atmosphere, with very friendly employees. All of them took their time to answer my questions, talk with me and update me on their history. So thank you again!
